History

Bahawalpur State was established in 1727 and Amir Sadiq Muhammad Khan became its ruler. He was descendant of rulers of Baghdad. His family ruled Sindh and had lived in Makran, as religious leaders. Amir Sadiq Muhammad Khan was the head of this branch of Abbasis. The Abbasis first came to Uch Sharif on the invitation of Bukharies and Gilanis. Later on, they got the areas of Shikarpur from Governor of Multan as Jagir. After the death of Amir Sadiq Muhammad Khan his eldest son named Amir Muhammad Bahawal Khan came into power and founded the city of Bahawalpur. The name, Bahawalpur has been driven from Amir Muhammad Bahawal Khan.
